EcoCampus Bees4Future Enters Its Second Year: Expanding Training, Sustainability, and Inclusion

The second year of FOMAS’ Isola Formativa has officially begun within the EcoCampus Bees4Future project, welcoming three new interns and doubling the cultivated area at Parco Galileo.

The successful completion of the first year delivered tangible outcomes for all three participants: two interns secured employment—one with PASO and one with a partner cooperative through the activation of Article 14 supported by FOMAS—while the third continued specialized training in the agricultural sector.

Now underway, the second year marks a significant expansion. The cultivated land at Parco Galileo has increased compared to last season, allowing trainees to engage in every operational phase of sustainable farming activities, including soil preparation, seeding, planting, and seasonal crop management. All activities follow environmentally responsible agricultural practices designed to protect biodiversity.

The harvest is used to create weekly vegetable boxes, which are also available to FOMAS employees, offering a concrete and measurable outcome of the training pathway. Starting in 2026, part of the production will be processed into preserved vegetables in oil and sweet-and-sour recipes, further expanding participants’ skills and increasing the overall value of the final products.

Alongside agricultural training, the program continues to offer hands-on education in urban beekeeping.

Interns are involved in the weekly care of FOMAS beehives located in the Montevecchia and Curone Valley Park, managed in collaboration with Apicoltura Urbana Srl.

This experience enables participants to develop specialized competencies in hive management while respecting local ecosystems and biodiversity dynamics.

Bees4Future: The Project

Bees4Future is an initiative promoted by FOMAS S.p.A. in collaboration with PASO Social Cooperative and Apicoltura Urbana Srl, with the support of the Province of Lecco. Launched in November 2024, the project translates corporate social responsibility into a concrete program for workforce inclusion and environmental sustainability, in alignment with Italy’s active labor policies under Law 68/99.

The two-year program involves a total of six people with disabilities, who receive recognized training for the professional profiles of Agricultural Operator and Beekeeper, in compliance with the Regional Qualifications Framework (QRSP) of Lombardy.

EcoCampus Bees4Future is a core initiative within the FOMAS Group’s broader commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, representing a best-practice model of collaboration between industry, the environment, and local communities.
