FOMAS Group's Apiary Project

News & Events

At FOMAS Group, we are committed to making a positive impact on the environment.

Two years ago, we embarked on a project with our partner Apicoltura Urbana to install four beehives in Curone Park, aiming to boost biodiversity conservation and catalyze environmental transformation in the surrounding area.

Project Overview and Outcomes

Our apiary is home to approximately 240,000 Italian bee (Apis mellifera ligustica). In 2022 alone, these bees produced 25 kilograms of honey while pollinating around 180 million flowers daily. This feat not only highlights the importance of bee conservation but also underscores the significant role that pollinators play in maintaining ecosystem health.

Pollen Analysis Reveals Thriving Biodiversity

A thorough examination of pollen collected from our beehives, conducted by Apicoltura Urbana, has revealed a vibrant portrait of biodiversity in the project's vicinity. The analysis identified ten key species, all demonstrating mitigation capabilities that can help curtail greenhouse gas emissions. This finding underscores the critical role that our apiary project plays in promoting environmental sustainability.

CO2 Mitigation: A Key Benefit of Our Apiary Project

The project has a direct and positive impact on biodiversity conservation and plant growth, which in turn enhances CO2 reduction efforts. The plants identified in our pollen analysis, such as Chestnut, Plum, Acacia, and Linden, have different CO2 absorption capacities:

  • Chestnut: 20-50 kg of CO2 per year
  • Plum: 10 kg of CO2 per year
  • Acacia: 15-25 kg of CO2 per year
  • Linden: 20-30 kg of CO2 per year

Environmental Impact and Commitment to Sustainability

The results of our apiary project are a testament to our commitment to environmental protection and sustainability. With an estimated annual reduction of approximately 14.25 kg of CO2, we are proud to be making a small but significant difference in the fight against climate change, as well as taking a step toward building a more sustainable business.
