Forgings and Ring: More Than 50 Years of Experience in the Nuclear Industry
FOMAS Group has more than 50 years of experience in supplying forged components and rolled rings for demanding nuclear applications.
Drawing on its metallurgical expertise and close collaboration with customers, the Group supports critical applications, including primary and secondary circuit equipment, conventional and advanced reactor technologies, Small Modular Reactors, radioactive waste management systems and fusion energy projects.
In this highly regulated industry, quality and manufacturing reliability are essential throughout the entire production process.
FOMAS became one of the first in Europe, to obtain ASME certification in 1979. The company is also certified according to ISO 19443, the international quality management standard for organizations supplying products and services important to nuclear safety.
Metal Powders for Nuclear Applications
Building on the Group’s experience in highly regulated industries, the scope of FOMAS Group’s ISO 19443-certified quality management system has also been extended to include MIMETE® metal powder production.
Since 2019, FOMAS Group has produced iron-, nickel- and cobalt-based metal powders through vacuum induction melting inert gas atomization. Its in-house capabilities include sieving, blending, air classification, and packaging.
Chemical, physical, and morphological characterization is performed in-house, with selected tests carried out by an in-house ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratory.
The inclusion of metal powder production within the ISO 19443-certified quality management system reinforces process control, traceability, supply chain oversight, nuclear safety culture and the prevention of counterfeit, fraudulent and suspect items.
Strengthening Material Control and Supply Chain Resilience
FOMAS Group is completing the installation of a new five-ton Vacuum Induction Melting furnace at its Headquarters.
The new VIM will enable the Group to produce superalloys in-house, strengthening control over material quality, increasing vertical integration, and improving supply chain resilience. The superalloys will support the Group’s manufacturing capabilities across forgings, rolled rings and metal powders for demanding industrial sectors.
